Is Ketamine Assisted Therapy for you?

  • Maybe you’re feeling stuck, low, hopeless, overwhelmed or desperate. Maybe you have tried medications, self-help books, podcasts and/or groups with little or no relief. Maybe you have been to talk therapy and worked through much of your “stuff,” but are still feeling like you haven’t been able to feel a sense of peace in your life.

  • Perhaps you are at a point in your life where you are considering existential questions such as: What’s my purpose? How do I discover my authentic self? Am I living a meaningful and fulfilling life? What do I need to let go of to make space for what matters most? What’s next?

  • Maybe you are a provider in Southern Maine that has a patient not responding to traditional methods and you are looking for something outside the box with proven results. Maybe you are a therapist that is looking for answers for a client that is not making progress with talk therapy, and you are looking to supplement their treatment to accelerate their process.

  • Maybe you are a provider who is offering or is considering offering KAT in your practice and would like supervision, consultation or information on this innovative approach from a well-trained, experienced clinician in Maine.

  • Ketamine Assisted Therapy with a trained, experienced provider in Maine could be your answer.

What is Ketamine Assisted Therapy?

Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAT) is a proven mental health treatment that combines psychotherapy with ketamine’s unique healing properties. This innovative approach helps participants work through a variety of mental and emotional challenges, oftentimes at a greater pace and depth than either approach on its own.

Ketamine is a medicine that has been around since the 1960's- used as a battlefield anesthetic in the Vietnam War. It is now widely used for anesthesia in pediatrics and as a short-term sedative in Emergency Rooms. It is considered one of the World Health Organization's top ten most essential medicines.

In Ketamine Assisted Therapy, Ketamine is used at low doses to enhance emotional healing, vivid imagery, heart opening, relaxation, euphoria and access to processing past traumatic events in a safe, detached container.

Ketamine’s signature properties are its rapid onset, ability to decrease negative thinking and increase spaciousness of the mind. The transformative  effects of this medicine—in conjunction with mindful psychotherapy— is what makes this experience so impactful.

I have noticed in my 25 years in the field of mental health that we are all trying to find a sense of peace- maybe even contentment- and there are many routes in which we can arrive there. In my experience, Ketamine Assisted Therapy is the most direct, efficient and impactful way to create that. It offers a personal experience providing a perspective that can otherwise be quite difficult to achieve. It creates a connection with ourselves and the world around us that allows for that sense of peace to surface. In both my clinical experience and larger KAT studies, response rates were significantly higher than those seen in traditional treatments, such as antidepressants, talk therapy, and also higher than those reported for IV Ketamine (we currently offer intramuscular and sublingual options combined with therapy/integration).

I concluded a year long fellowship with IPI in 2022, and have been offering KAT at my office in North Yarmouth since completion.
