Hello

I’m jessica Whitten, LCPC

She/Her

I welcome clients of all stages, phases, genders, sexual identities and orientations, races, religions, and national origins.

I will meet you exactly where you are, in this moment.

My personal approach to therapy is blending traditional and unconventional practices, encouraging personal growth and healing in a compassionate and non-judgmental setting. I believe each individual is whole and complete regardless of obstacles that may currently be present. Psychotherapy facilitates a sacred rediscovering of that innate wholeness, allowing you to collect possible fragments of yourself and find compassion and contentment at any age or stage of life.

Through our sessions, you or your loved one may experience the following:

  • Fresh perspectives

  • Undiscovered insights

  • An ability to set boundaries that work

  • New solutions to old problems

  • A sense of meaning, wholeness, connection, and well-being

  • Confidence in yourself, who you are, and your decisions

  • Fun, playfulness, and humor

  • Movement of energy and emotions

 MY APPROACH

  • There are many different events, experiences and histories that bring a person into therapy. Having worked in crisis, in-home, and outpatient settings in my career, I have had the privilege of treating a myriad of diagnoses and issues. Having spent several years honing my skills through research, experience, and education, I have found they are best applied in the following areas:

    Codependency

    (Complex) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

    Confidence/Self-esteem

    Coping Skills

    Depression

    Marital Issues (individuals)

    Sex Positivity

    Sexual Abuse

    Sleep

    Spirituality

  • For therapy to be most impactful, it is crucial that everyone is in an inclusive and welcoming environment, where they feel safe to be and/or discover their true selves. I have education and/or experience working with the following communities:

    Adults, Individuals, Elders

    Allied

    LGBTQIA+

    Gender Expansive/Fluid

    Non-Binary

    Heterosexual

    Ethical Non-monogamous Relationships

  • It has been long researched and supported that the most significant indicator of successful therapy is the relationship and trust between the therapist and client. Because of this, I do not tend to align with one particular therapeutic approach and instead implement various techniques that best foster this important relationship. With your consent, some of these modalities may include the following:

    Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

    Body Positivity

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

    Compassion Focused

EDUCATION & eXPERIENCE

I grew up exploring Maine’s coast and mountains, with various training, schooling, and life experiences in New Hampshire, The Virgin Islands, New Mexico, and Colorado.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from the University of New Hampshire, Master of Science in Clinical Counseling from the University of Southern Maine, and an EMDRIA Certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) from the Colorado Center for Alternative Psychology.

In October of 2022, I completed a year-long fellowship program for Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) with the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in Boulder, Colorado. This training also included a certificate program with the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), of San Jose, California. These two programs cater specifically to the research, history, and implementation of ketamine, psilocybin, and MDMA in psychotherapy.

Following my licensure in 2005, I began working with clients experiencing mental health crises and later managed a mobile crisis intervention team--assessing lethality and levels of care. While in Santa Fe, I practiced both outpatient and in-home family therapy. Living in the southwest was an integral part of incorporating the spiritual aspect of counseling into my practice, where I was able to participate in courses and ceremonies of indigenous, feminist, and earth-based traditions. Upon my return to Maine in 2010, I opened my own private practice serving adults, couples, and children in the Greater Portland area.

Currently I am offering tele-health psychotherapy appointments for adults, and in-person Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) at our offices in North Yarmouth, Maine.
